This recipe states 0 grams of flaked barley, but the original recipe called for 400 grams of flaked barley. When started to mash, I forgot the 400 gram bag of flaked barley (it was in the next room) .. I guess Murphy's law applies to brewing as well as any other thing. ;-)
My pre-boil was 33 liters @ 1.048, which is calculated in BeerSmith as 89% efficiency. Not bad for a BIAB. Post-boil gravity was approximately 1.061 which is exactly what I wanted.
I ended up with ~21 liters in the fermenter.
In a couple of days, I will add cocoa nibs and peppermint leaves to the fermenter.
I hope the beer will be ready for Christmas, otherwise I will have to call this an easter-brew ;-)
As you can see on the attached image, I use a Brew-In-A-Bag method for brewing. I used to brew with three vessels but I find this to be a better method of brewing so I changed recently and haven't looked back since.
Draining the bag into the pot .. the weather outside was amazing |
